INFLUENCER ANKUR WARIKOO'S JOURNEY: 'HAD DECAYING HIP BONE, NOW FAT-FREE AT 43'

YouTuber-entrepreneur Ankur Warikoo shared his fitness journey of being "fat-free" at 43. He shared a transformation photo on Instagram, showing his 6-pack abs after losing 10 kg.

In the post, the author revealed that he was diagnosed with a medical condition called Avascular Necrosis at 32, following which, doctors advised him to stop walking.

Avascular Necrosis is a disease that results from the temporary or permanent loss of blood supply to the bone.

After his hip surgery, he was on bed rest for 3 months and used crutches for the next 5 months. But this did not stop him from starting his fitness journey.

"I underwent surgery. Was on bed rest for 3 months. Crutches for 5 months. I recovered, but, life told me to stop walking. How could I tell life that this chapter is over for me and I have won? In a moment of craziness, I decided I will run a marathon," he wrote.

Warikoo wrote that he joined the gym and decided to run a marathon.

"I hadn't had any physical activity for months. I was fat and inflexible. I hated running (still do!) It was really hard. But I kept going. 10 months later, I completed the half-marathon of 21 km," he wrote.

But after running for 21 km didn't feel the satisfaction. "I felt I had cheated. Because up until that day, the maximum I had ever run was 14 km. So I could have showed up any day and finished the 21 km. It didn't require me to show up every day," he wrote.

He wanted to achieve a goal for which he would have to prepare himself every single day. At 33, he decided he wanted to get six-pack abs. He wrote, "My body fat percentage as of that day was 26%. Abs show when body fat reaches sub-10% levels."

He changed his diet, sleep schedule and fitness regime and got six-pack abs. Ten years later, at 43, Warikoo decided to get six-pack abs again and began working.

In a YouTube video, Warikoo documented his fitness journey and said that he focused on three main aspects called the 3T model: track, train and transform.

In track, he talked about changing his diet and the only way he was able to reduce the fat content in the body was by following a calorie deficit diet. In this diet, a person's total calorie input is less than the calories spent during a day.

In the video, he shared that he is a vegetarian who eats and so, he kept a target of being in a 500 calorie deficit every day.

He also consumed whey protein along with walnuts, almonds, cashews, raisins, and other supplements like creatine in the morning.

His mid-morning meal consisted raw paneer or tofu or tempeh with salt and pepper. Some days it would be 3 egg whites or even daal chila.

Later, in the evening, he would take a fruit break. Dinner was around 4 pm with 2 rotis made of either emmer wheat, jower or soya bean with vegetable sabzi, a cup of dal and a cup of low-fat yoghurt.

His last meal of the day was at 6:30 pm which was a bowl of curd mixed with one scoop of protein powder.

However, he did have his moments of heaving sweets and savoury items like chole bhature now and then.

As part of his workout, Warikoo revealed playing tennis six times a week for an hour and then working six times a week for 45 minutes.

"Every day I would do 2 exercises for 3 body parts (so a total of 6 exercises) with 3 sets and 10-12 repetitions," he said in his YouTube post.

Warikoo concluded his transformation post and wrote, "Today, I am 43 and "fat-free". And I know that this routine, lifestyle, and mindset which started 10 years back, will stay with me for life. Forever grateful for this 'second' life."
