SIX TYPES OF BLOOD TESTS EVERYONE SHOULD GET DONE

Blood tests can reveal a lot about your health. These tests are like a window into your body and can indicate, to some extent, the areas you need to pay attention to.

Experts recommend getting blood tests done at least once a year during an annual health check-up.

In case you have pre-existing conditions like diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, then blood work should be done every three to six months.

Some important blood tests that everyone should get done are complete blood count, metabolic panel, lipid panel, thyroid panel, and vitamin D levels.

Complete blood count

A complete blood count (CBC) measures the red, and white blood cells and platelets in the body. It helps identify infections like anaemia, and even blood cancer.

Metabolic panel

A basic metabolic panel assesses your body's glucose levels to screen for diabetes or prediabetes. The test also looks at your kidney and liver health, including electrolytes in the body like potassium, sodium and calcium. This is specifically important for people who have a high BMI (body mass index).

Lipid panel

This blood test would require fasting beforehand. A lipid panel measures your cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Borderline or high results of this panel can indicate an increased risk of heart disease.

Cardiac biomarkers

Check the enzyme levels in your body. According to Healthline, Enzymes are proteins that help the body achieve various chemical processes like breaking down food and clotting blood.

Vitamin D levels

Vitamin D levels help indicate early onset risk of osteoporosis (bone mineral density).

Thyroid levels

The thyroid test understands whether your thyroid gland is in hyperactivity or underactivity. It looks at the thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH). In case of either condition which is treatable, you can consult your doctor for early intervention.
